This is a fashion shoot that I shot for this months issue of Vice magazine, Germany.

The concept was truth or dare. For the moral support of all involved I did some dares too.

Just to confirm that I never ask models to do anything that I wouldn’t, here’s some from behind the scenes:

This is a shoot I did for Lee Jeans at Bread & Butter in Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport. The place was crowded and so sadly I couldn’t use the cool interiors of the airport but had to find areas less populated.

Bitches with Wolves – Fashion Shoot

Here is the shoot as published in Totally Dublin:

Bitches with Wolves are a new up and coming act in the Irish music scene and are featured on the line up for Oxegen this Summer. I took the girls from the group out to the Botanic Gardens in Dublin to jump on a trampoline on cold wet Spring day. The trampoline was a bitch to put together and take apart but we had a lot of fun and the girls were great. Four shots from the shoot were published in this months (June 2009) Totally Dublin. Dublin illustrator Keith Nally put the final touches on the images for publication.

Kosovo – Electronic Musicians without Electricity

In December 2008 we ventured to Pristina, Kosovo in search of the music scene. The nation was barely a year old. With great interest I read throughout the year about the youngest country in the world with over 60% of it’s population under 30 years old. So we went unsure of what to expect and had the best time ever.

Two of Pristina’s finest introduced us to the scene in the city:

I recently discovered this little ole photo booth on a street corner a few blocks from the apartment I had in Berlin. €2 a photo strip. An hour well spent.

The Aran Islands

The only part of Ireland that wasn’t occupied by the English was Inis Meain, which remains today one of the only places in Ireland that the Irish language survived. For this project reviving what few phrases I could recall from my school years was the challenge.

The approach taken was to visit all three islands of Aran and meet the characters that lived there.

Paraic Poil

A farmer who harvests his own crops by hand with a scythe and used to kill his own cattle until EU regulation.

Michael McNulty

A Canadian stock broker who trades from the comfort of his cottage on Inis Meain and speaks better Irish than 90% of Irish citizens.

Niamh

Once a chef on cargo boats, she lives in a caravan on Inis Moir.

Anthony

Considered to be the last of the island moonface men, he is a legend on the islands and a retired sailor.

Rory

The youngest of a large family Rory is a blind farmer who works land that is spread out over the island.

Good Vibrations

If there was a Charlie and the chocolate factory for adults and by adults I really mean women, you’d find it in Bremen, Germany. When we arrived we were met with smiles and given the tour. The factory floor was bright and full of colour and smiles like a kids playgroup.

Getting full access to a dildo factory kinda like getting the answers to a multiple choice test before you know the questions. What does that mean? I have no idea. Felt right when I typed it.

It was an education. I’ve never talked so frankly to women about their personal time. I also was never more thankful for having a camera thats big enough to cover my laughter when I work. Oh no wait, there was a talent contest that I photographed once where I was thankful for that too.

Yes I felt as uncomfortable as I look. I got over it. After all, I’m a better listener.

dick head……I mean that in the best possible way.

This is not by any means the best photograph that I’ve ever made. So why did it make the cut? Well when you meet a woman whose jobs it is to design dildos, and you ask her to draw one for you, you better believe you should remember that moment.

Everywhere they sell their products. Smart.

May Day Riots, Berlin 2009

May 1st 2009. My first riot. I was a little disappointed that I was only getting to my first one at this age, but I was also a little disappointed with how tame it was. Sure there were bottles, bricks and fireworks flying through the air and crashing around me, but also there were a ton of photographers and tourists on the sidelines. A street away people were still sitting outside coffee shops, cleaning up after their dogs and calling their kids in for dinner.

We hung out in the middle of the protesters for the duration of the show while they threw what they could. We ran with them when the cops chased them like a wussy game of British Bulldog. I have to say, the police were a lot cooler. In admitting that, I’m probably showing my age, but that’s something I’m cool with. I’m also cool with the fact that although they made the occasional good point in their demonstration against Capitalism, they failed to thank it for providing them with the microphones, PA, & truck-trailer combo they were using.

Anyway that’s not the point of this post. I made some photographs:
